Vehicle pursuit ends in multi-car crash in New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, NY — A high-speed pursuit that began on Interstate 87 ended in a three-vehicle collision in the Village of New Paltz on Jan. 30, 2026.

New York State Troopers assigned to the Thruway Barracks in Kingston observed a 2021 Nissan traveling southbound on Interstate 87 near Exit 20 at a high rate of speed at approximately 1:51 p.m.

Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to comply, and a pursuit ensued for approximately 19 miles.

The pursuit was terminated near the New Paltz exit.

The vehicle continued traveling at a high rate of speed into the Town of New Paltz.

Troopers later patrolled the area and were advised that the suspect vehicle had been involved in a collision.

During the investigation, it was determined that the 2021 Nissan had been pursued by the Village of Catskill Police Department prior to entering the Thruway.

The Nissan was traveling westbound on Main Street when it struck the rear of a 2021 Mazda that was turning left onto North Front Street.

The Nissan continued westbound and struck the rear driver side of a 2020 Tesla that was traveling eastbound.

After striking the Tesla, the Nissan continued westbound and struck the rear of a stationary 2012 Suzuki in the westbound lane, becoming wedged between the Tesla and the Suzuki.

No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.

The operator of the Nissan was identified as Naveah J. Jackson, 21, of Catskill.

Jackson fled the scene of the collision and has not been apprehended.

A search of the area was conducted with negative results.
