Man arrested on child exploitation charges in New Windsor

NEW WINDSOR, NY — New York State Police announced the arrest of a 47-year-old man on charges related to child sexual exploitation.

David Mejia Sr., of New Windsor, was arrested Thursday following a months-long investigation.

Mejia Sr. is charged with promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child less than 17 years of age, a class D felony, and possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child less than 16 years of age, a class E felony.

The investigation began in July and revealed that Mejia Sr. was in possession of images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children, according to state police.

A search warrant was executed at Mejia Sr.’s residence in New Windsor in January.

The investigation was conducted by the Troop F Computer Crimes Unit, the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit, Troop F Violent Gang and Narcotic Enforcement Team, Troop F Major Crimes Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Montgomery and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Mejia Sr. was arraigned Friday in the City of Newburgh Court, where he was released on his own recognizance.

He is scheduled to appear in the Town of New Windsor Court on Feb. 10 at 4:30 p.m.
