ELLENVILLE, NY — The Ellenville Police Department responded to a call for an unconscious male at the warming center located in the Hunt Building on Saturday at about 3 p.m.

It was quickly determined that the male was deceased.

The Ulster County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene, and the deceased was transferred to Health Alliance Hospital where a final determination of the cause of death will be determined after an autopsy.

Ellenville Police Chief Philip Mattracion stated there is no indication of any foul play.

“It appears from the investigation that the deceased suffered some sort of significant medical event while he was sleeping and passed away peacefully as a result,” Mattracion said.

The deceased is identified as Lamont Frink, 51, of Ellenville.

Chief Mattracion stated the coordinators and staff who are running the shelter were fully cooperative and obviously distraught about the incident.

Ellenville Police were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police in Wawarsing and the Ellenville Rescue Squad.
