Two shooting incidents investigated in Elmira

ELMIRA, NY — The Elmira Police Department is investigating two separate shooting incidents that occurred early Friday morning.

Officers responded to the 300 block of Woodlawn Avenue at approximately 12:36 a.m. for a report of a gunshot that had struck a residence in the area.

Upon arrival, officers found that one round had penetrated a window and a shell casing was located nearby.

At approximately 3:22 a.m., officers responded to the area of Admiral Place and Fayette Street for a suspicious vehicle.

Prior to responding, officers received calls of possibly three gunshots in the area and the RAVEN Gunshot Detection system also detected the gunshots.

Upon arrival, officers began canvassing the area and speaking with residents.

No evidence was located at that time; however, the suspicious vehicle was located abandoned nearby.

The vehicle was found to have swapped license plates and was subsequently impounded as part of the investigation.

It is unknown if the incidents are related and an investigation into both incidents is underway.
