Man arrested on harassment, family offense charges in Solon

SOLON, NY — A Cortland man was arrested early Jan. 29 on charges of aggravated family offense and aggravated harassment in the second degree, according to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.

Eric W. Smith, 42, of Cortland, was taken into custody around 2:40 a.m. after officers responded to a harassment complaint at a residence in Solon the previous evening.

Deputies determined that Smith had communicated with a known victim in a threatening manner, officials said.

Smith was not present when deputies arrived at the residence around 8:23 p.m. on Jan. 28, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Smith was located and arrested a few hours later.

He was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, where he was processed and arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process at 9 a.m. the same day.

He was remanded to Cortland County Jail on $500 cash bail.

Smith is scheduled to appear in Solon Town Court at 6 p.m. on Feb. 18.
