Man arrested in child abuse case in Cairo

CAIRO, NY — A 24-year-old man has been arrested after a 3-year-old girl was found unconscious with visible injuries at a residence on Main Street.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on Jan. 28, 2026, along with the Town of Cairo Police and State Police.

The child was treated at the scene by Town of Cairo Ambulance personnel, Town of Durham Ambulance personnel and Greene County Medics before being airlifted to Albany Medical Center.

Lameik Wilson, of Cairo, was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Authorities allege Wilson intentionally caused serious physical injury to the child.

The child remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Wilson was arraigned before Town Justice Paolino in Town of Catskill Court and committed to the Greene County Jail without bail.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Greene County District Attorney’s Office and the New York State Police Forensic Identification Unit.
