PERU, NY — New York State Police charged a Plattsburgh man with Driving While Intoxicated following a crash on Jan. 27, 2026.

Jayson N. Fernando, 38, of Plattsburgh, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (previous conviction), Reckless Driving, and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

At approximately 1:59 p.m., troopers responded to Pleasant Street in the town of Peru for a report of a vehicle that had struck a residence.

An investigation determined that a 2022 Acura was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control, exited the roadway, struck a tree, and came to rest just inches from the residence.

Troopers interviewed Fernando, who was identified as the sole occupant of the vehicle.

During the interview, Fernando exhibited signs of impairment.

Fernando was medically evaluated at the scene and showed no apparent injuries.

He was transported to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital for further evaluation, where he provided a blood sample to determine his blood alcohol content.

Fernando was later released from the hospital and transported to State Police Plattsburgh for processing.

He was released on appearance tickets, returnable to the Town of Peru Court on a later date in February.

The owner of the residence was notified of the collision.
