MALONE, NY — New York State Police responded to State Route 30 in the town of Malone for a reported vehicle fire at approximately 1:06 p.m. on Jan. 26, 2026.
An investigation determined that a 2026 blue Hyundai Elantra, operated by Dayrien A. Dumas, 28, of Burke, was traveling south on State Route 30 when the operator heard a loud noise coming from the engine compartment.
Dumas pulled the vehicle onto the shoulder and opened the hood, at which time he observed flames coming from the engine.
Dumas was medically evaluated by Malone EMS due to sustaining non-life-threatening burns to his arms and face.
Malone Fire responded to the scene and successfully extinguished the vehicle fire.
The vehicle was later towed from the scene.
