MANLIUS, NY — A convicted felon was arrested earlier this month after police discovered he was in possession of an illegal assault rifle.
Salvatore Giacobbe, of Manlius, was taken into custody without incident after officers located a Hi-Point 995 assault rifle in his possession.
Police received a tip about the weapon while investigating an unrelated dispute.
Officers conducted interviews with Giacobbe and other witnesses before locating the firearm.
Giacobbe was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree for possessing an assault weapon, which is illegal in New York State.
He was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree for possessing a firearm after a felony conviction.
