Man arrested on forcible touching charge in Cayuga

CAYUGA, NY — A 43-year-old man has been arrested on a sex offense charge following an incident at a residence in the village.

Edward J. Copes Jr., of Cayuga, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 19 and charged with one count of forcible touching, a misdemeanor, according to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck.

Deputies responded to a residence in the Village of Cayuga at approximately 3:53 p.m. on Jan. 19 for a reported sex offense.

During the investigation, authorities determined that Copes sexually touched a 19-year-old female without her consent.

Copes was processed at Cayuga County Jail and arraigned at CAP Court, where bail was set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in Aurelius Town Court on Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.
