Man arrested on strangulation charge in Victory

VICTORY, NY — A 26-year-old man was arrested following a domestic incident on Route 104.

Erik J. Johnston, of Victory, was arrested at 10:28 p.m. on Jan. 18 and charged with second-degree strangulation, a felony, along with misdemeanor counts of second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest, according to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck.

Deputies responded to an address on Route 104 at approximately 10:15 p.m. for a reported domestic incident with injury.

When deputies arrived, Johnston met them in the driveway with a combative, aggressive posture, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies detained Johnston, who continued to be combative.

During the investigation, deputies determined that Johnston and a female family member got into a verbal argument that escalated to Johnston placing his hands around her neck and strangling her.

The female victim refused medical treatment.

Johnston was brought to the Public Safety Building, processed and brought to Cayuga County Jail for centralized arraignment.

Johnston was remanded to the custody of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and appeared in Victory Town Court on Jan. 21 at 6 p.m.
