Man arrested after shots fired in Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, NY — State Police arrested a 68-year-old man on multiple charges after he allegedly fired shots from his home following a dispute with a plow truck operator.

Daniel R. Hoose, of Johnstown, was arrested Jan. 25, 2026, and charged with menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, and reckless endangerment in the second degree.

Troopers responded to a residence on State Route 309 at about 9:37 p.m. for reports of shots being fired following a verbal dispute.

The investigation determined Hoose was involved in a verbal dispute with the operator of a privately owned plow truck.

Following the disagreement, Hoose allegedly discharged multiple rounds from a long gun out of a second-story window.

No one was injured during the incident, and no property damage was found.

The firearm used during the incident was seized.

Hoose was transported to State Police Mayfield for processing.

He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Johnstown Town Court on Feb. 11, 2026, and released.
