Driver arrested on drug charges in Hempstead

HEMPSTEAD, NY — Members of the New York State Police Troop L Community Stabilization Unit and Troop L troopers conducted a traffic stop at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2026, in the village of Hempstead for violating New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws.

During a lawful probable cause search of the vehicle, troopers recovered a large quantity of illegal narcotics, drug packaging and preparation materials along with U.S. currency.

The operator of the vehicle was found to be in possession of approximately 425 grams of marijuana, 11 grams of MDMA, 44 grams of Oxycodone, 4 grams of ecstasy, drug packaging and preparation materials and approximately $4,500 in U.S. currency.

The operator was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree, a class B felony; one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance 5th degree, a class D felony; two counts of criminally using drug paraphernalia 2nd degree, a class A misdemeanor; and one count of criminal possession of cannabis 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor.
