DELHI, NY — A Bainbridge man was arrested Thursday night after sheriff’s deputies observed him operating a vehicle from the passenger seat while allegedly intoxicated with a child in the car.
Delaware County Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest Friday.
Deputies patrolling the Village of Delhi observed a vehicle being operated by a male from the passenger seat with no driver in the driver’s seat Thursday night.
Deputies made contact with the operator, identified as William Weil, 35, of Bainbridge.
During the investigation, deputies determined Weil appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and had a child under the age of 15 in the vehicle.
Weil was charged with aggravated DWI with a child in the vehicle, aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or more with a prior conviction in the last 10 years, all class E felonies.
He was also charged with reckless driving and driving while intoxicated, both misdemeanors, and no seat belt, a violation.
Weil was additionally charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
Weil was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Delhi Court and was released to appear in court at a later date.
