Man arrested on forgery charge in Aurelius

AURELIUS, NY — A man has been arrested on a felony forgery charge after allegedly altering a stolen check from his employer.

Stephen E. Kilts, 32, of Auburn, was arrested Jan. 13 and charged with forgery in the second degree, a class D felony, according to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck.

An investigation revealed that Kilts altered the name on a stolen check from his employer in the town of Aurelius and deposited the check into his checking account, Schenck said.

Kilts was processed at the Sheriff’s Office and turned over to Centralized Arraignment Part, where he was released on his own recognizance.

He appeared in Aurelius Town Court on Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.
