MIDDLETOWN, NY — A Delaware County woman was arrested Monday after allegedly setting her residence on fire and admitting to the crime while walking along a roadway.

Amy Slater, 49, of Fleischmanns, was charged with one count of arson in the third degree and criminal mischief in the second degree, both felonies.

Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a report of suspicious activity at 746 Old Route 28 in the Town of Middletown on Jan. 19.

While responding to the call, a deputy encountered Slater walking along the roadway near the incident address.

During the encounter, Slater made verbal admissions to the deputy regarding setting her residence on fire, according to Sheriff Craig S. DuMond.

Slater was immediately detained and the deputy continued to the residence, where it was confirmed the home was on fire.

Delaware County 911 dispatched multiple fire departments to the scene to conduct fire suppression efforts.

Members of the Delaware County Cause and Origin Team and the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division responded to conduct an investigation.

Following completion of arrest processing, Slater was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility, where she was held for arraignment at Centralized Arraignment Processing Court that evening.

Slater was arraigned and released pending her appearance in the Town of Middletown Court at a later date.
