Tractor trailer jackknifes, struck by box truck in Montpelier

MONTPELIER, VT — A tractor trailer that jackknifed and blocked both lanes of Interstate 89 northbound was struck by a box truck early Wednesday morning.

Troopers from the Berlin Barracks responded to the crash at approximately 1:29 a.m. at mile marker 52.4.

The tractor trailer, operated by Veronica Baez, 29, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, had jackknifed and was blocking both northbound travel lanes when a box truck collided with it.

The box truck was operated by Yerry Miche, 26, of Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Both operators were wearing seat belts and reported no injuries.

Both were checked by EMS at the scene.

The 2025 Freightliner Cascadia tractor trailer sustained moderate damage to the front bumper.

The 2015 Hino box truck sustained major front bumper damage and damage to the driver’s side front axle.

Roads were snow covered and it was snowing at the time of the crash.

Stockwells Garage removed the box truck from the roadway and Charliebois Towing removed the tractor trailer.
