BRASHER, NY — New York State Police charged Jeffrey LaPrade, 46, of Massena, with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 5th Degree, Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Driving While Intoxicated on Jan. 20, 2026.

At approximately 4:33 p.m., troopers responded to Congress Street in the town of Brasher for a reported domestic dispute.

An investigation determined that LaPrade and the victim were involved in a verbal argument, which resulted in LaPrade leaving the residence prior to law enforcement’s arrival.

Before troopers were aware of the domestic incident, a trooper observed a red 2014 Chevrolet being operated by LaPrade.

Once notified of the incident, troopers began patrolling the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle.

The vehicle was later found parked along the side of the road on County Route 53 in the town of Brasher.

The trooper made contact with the driver, who was identified as LaPrade.

During the interview, LaPrade exhibited signs of impairment and acted suspiciously, repeatedly placing his hands in his pockets.

A weapons frisk was conducted for officer safety.

While the trooper attempted to detain him, LaPrade fled on foot and failed to comply with multiple verbal commands to stop.

The trooper displayed a taser and again ordered LaPrade to stop, but he continued to disobey commands.

LaPrade was subsequently tased and taken into custody without further incident.

An inventory of LaPrade’s vehicle revealed he was in possession of stolen property connected to a previous incident at Tri-Town Packing.

LaPrade was not injured during the arrest.

He was transported to State Police Massena for processing and was later arraigned in the Town of Massena Court, where he was released on his own recognizance.
