LAWRENCE, MA — A driver was arrested early Jan. 19, 2026, after police observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way on a one-way section of Hampshire Street.
Patrol Division officers assigned to the midnight shift conducted a motor vehicle stop after observing the traffic violation.
After the vehicle eventually came to a stop, officers determined the operator was under the influence.
The individual exhibited slurred speech and was unable to speak coherently.
During the investigation, officers located a .22 caliber handgun inside the vehicle, along with a gold container holding 11 blue pills and a small twist containing a white powdery substance.
The male operator was taken into custody without incident.
The operator was charged with possession of a Class E drug, possession of a Class B drug, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition, improper storage of a firearm, operating under the influence of drugs, failure to stop for police, improper operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop or yield.
