Man arrested on burglary charge in Rockland

ROCKLAND, ME — Police arrested a Hope man on Jan. 20 in connection with an overnight burglary at a Main Street business.

Officers responded to the business at approximately 8:20 a.m. for a reported burglary.

Police said evidence at the scene indicated the suspect had prior knowledge of the business and was able to disable the security alarm and gain quick access to the safe, stealing over $3,000.

The Criminal Investigation Division took over the investigation, conducting interviews and collecting video and physical evidence.

Based on information learned and evidence collected, detectives conducted an interview and search of a residence in Hope at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Detectives recovered almost all of the stolen money and arrested Mark Hupper, 41, of Hope.

Hupper was charged with felony burglary, felony theft and felony aggravated criminal mischief.

Hupper, who is out on probation for a 2020 kidnapping charge, was also charged with violation of probation.
