HANOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Police arrested a 69-year-old man Monday after he allegedly cut and stole Verizon wires from a wooded area behind a nightclub.
Robert Durst, of Hanover Township, was taken into custody at approximately 11:30 a.m. in the wooded area behind Bentley’s Night Club on State Route 309.
Police responded to a complaint that a male was trespassing on the property and cutting Verizon wires, placing them on a sled and removing them from the property.
Upon arrival, officers located Durst pulling several lengths of cut wire on a sled.
During a search of his backpack, police found a hack saw.
Durst was charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, possessing instruments of crime and defiant trespassing.
He was arraigned before District Magistrate Moses and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 4 at 9 a.m.
