Man arrested on drug charges in Providence

PROVIDENCE, RI — A man faces multiple charges following a traffic stop on Bridgham Street.

Melvin Brown, 37, of East Providence, was arrested at 10:43 p.m. and charged with possession of a Schedule I-V controlled substance under 10 grams (cocaine), possession of a Schedule I-V controlled substance under 10 grams (codeine), resisting arrest, obstructing an officer in execution of duty and driving with expired license or without a license – fourth or subsequent offense.

Brown was transported to the State Police Lincoln Woods Barracks, where he was processed and held overnight as a probation violator pending morning arraignment.

In a separate incident, Gabrielle Bacon, 25, of Marlborough, Massachusetts, was arrested at 3:28 a.m. on Route 95 in Providence.

Bacon was charged with driving under the influence – BAC unknown – first offense and refusal to submit to a chemical test – first offense.

She was transported to the Lincoln Woods Barracks, processed, arraigned by a justice of the peace and released with a notice to appear in Sixth Division District Court.
