Two inmates charged in assault on correction officers in Auburn

AUBURN, NY — Two inmates have been charged with assaulting correction officers at the Auburn Correctional Facility.

Errol Fowler-Graham, 34, and Shaquan Brown, 33, were arrested following an investigation into the incident.

The assault occurred on Aug. 21, 2024, during inmate movement within the facility.

Multiple correction officers sustained injuries and were transported to Auburn Community Hospital for treatment.

One officer remained out of work due to injuries.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation in coordination with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office.

The case was presented to a grand jury, which returned indictments.

On Jan. 13, Fowler-Graham and Brown were arraigned in Cayuga County Court.

Each defendant was charged with three counts of assault in the second degree for injuring a person while confined in a correctional facility, a class D felony.

Each was also charged with three counts of assault in the second degree with intent to cause injury to an officer, a class D felony.

Both defendants were processed and returned to the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
