Man arrested on assault charge in Greenwich

GREENWICH, NY — State Police arrested a White Creek man on assault and criminal mischief charges on Jan. 13, 2026.

Mathieu M. Forette, 25, of White Creek, was charged with second-degree assault and third-degree criminal mischief.

Troopers were notified at about 10:01 a.m. that an individual had been transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

The investigation determined the victim, who had an ongoing conflict with Forette, traveled to the area of Forette’s home in White Creek and exited his vehicle.

While the victim was outside their vehicle, Forette allegedly discharged a pellet rifle multiple times from a second-story window of his home, striking the victim in the chest and back.

The victim fled to their vehicle and transported themselves to the hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim’s vehicle was also struck by a pellet and damaged during the incident.

Forette was located and arrested at his home.

He was transported to State Police Greenwich for processing.

He was then transported to Washington County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
