SOUTHPORT, NY — A Pennsylvania man faces felony charges after leading deputies on a high-speed chase that ended with him crashing into a tree on Jan. 14, 2026.
Brian T. Wilcox, 53, of Milan, Pennsylvania, was arrested following the incident that began at approximately 11:15 a.m. when deputies responded to a report of an erratic driver on State Route 328.
Southport Resident Deputy Josh Arnold observed a black Ford F-150 parked on the shoulder of the northbound lane near the Webb Mills roundabout.
The driver made eye contact with the deputy, then pulled onto the roadway and began traveling north on State Route 328.
Deputies activated their lights and sirens at the intersection of State Route 328 and State Route 14, but Wilcox failed to stop and turned onto State Route 14, traveling at a high rate of speed.
Deputies pursued Wilcox at speeds between 55 and 67 mph.
During the pursuit, Wilcox swerved in the roadway, crossing fog lines and centerlines on numerous occasions.
Near the Pennsylvania state line, Wilcox turned left onto Doty Hill Road.
The vehicle came to a stop, and Deputy Goodwin positioned his patrol vehicle in front of Wilcox’s truck to prevent him from leaving.
As Deputy Goodwin and New York State Trooper Zachary Hugg exited their vehicles and yelled commands, Wilcox accelerated and struck the passenger side of Deputy Goodwin’s patrol vehicle, nearly striking the deputy.
The pursuit continued a short distance until Wilcox turned onto Coleman Road, where he lost control of his truck and struck a tree.
After exiting his vehicle, Wilcox remained non-compliant, and a physical altercation ensued before he was taken into custody.
Wilcox was transported to Arnot Ogden Medical Center for treatment of a head injury.
Deputies determined Wilcox was highly intoxicated during the incident.
He was charged with felony DWI, felony aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, failure to comply and numerous vehicle and traffic violations.
Pennsylvania State Police responded and assisted with the investigation due to the location where the pursuit ended.
Pennsylvania State Police plan to lodge additional charges against Wilcox, including aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, recklessly endangering another person, flight to avoid apprehension and driving while intoxicated.
Wilcox was arraigned in Southport Town Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail with no bail.
Once Wilcox answers his charges in New York, he will be extradited to Pennsylvania.
