Shots fired investigation underway in Cranston

CRANSTON, RI — Officers responded to the area of Pleasant Street following a report of shots fired on January 14, 2026, at approximately 1:02 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers located spent shell casings in the roadway.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators reviewed multiple video recordings from the area, which showed a white sedan in the vicinity prior to the incident.

The vehicle returned shortly before shots were fired toward a nearby residence and then fled southbound on Pleasant Street prior to officers arriving on scene.

No damage to the residence was located.

Through investigative efforts, including the use of FLOCK license plate readers and coordination with neighboring law enforcement agencies, the suspect vehicle was later located and recovered in Providence.

Evidence consistent with the reported gunfire was found inside the vehicle.

The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that evening.

Investigators believe this was a targeted incident, and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the general public.

As a precaution, patrols have been increased in the area.

Detectives continue to canvass the neighborhood and review additional video evidence.
