NEW HARTFORD, NY — A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with two attempted robberies at businesses in Washington Mills on Monday evening.
Joseph Dimasse of New Hartford was taken into custody this morning following the execution of an arrest warrant and search warrant at 3851 Oneida St.
The New Hartford Police Department conducted the operation with assistance from the United States Marshals Service – NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, which included members from multiple law enforcement agencies.
Dimasse is charged with one count of attempted robbery in the first degree, a class C felony; one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor; and one count of attempted petit larceny, a misdemeanor.
The charges stem from incidents at a 7-Eleven convenience store and a McDonald’s restaurant on Kellogg Road on Monday evening.
Police responded to the 7-Eleven at approximately 7 p.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting an attempted robbery.
While officers were responding, a second attempted robbery was reported at the nearby McDonald’s.
According to police, a weapon was displayed during the attempted robbery at the 7-Eleven as the suspect attempted to obtain property from a sales associate.
The suspect fled and allegedly went to the McDonald’s, where a weapon was again threatened during an attempt to steal from a sales associate there.
Officers, including the New Hartford Police K9 Unit, conducted a search of the area and collected evidence, including video surveillance footage.
No one was injured during either incident.
