HAMPTON, NH — A driver faces charges after a multi-vehicle crash at a toll plaza that left one person seriously injured.
At 3:55 p.m. on Monday, state troopers assigned to the Troop A barracks responded to a report of a crash at the Hampton Side Toll Plaza, which connects Interstate 95 and Route 101.
The preliminary investigation determined that a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Keith Wheeler, 59, of Exeter, crossed into oncoming traffic at the toll plaza and hit a 2024 Subaru Impreza, driven by Charlie Moschetto, 55, of Methuen, Massachusetts.
After hitting the Subaru, the Chevrolet continued into oncoming traffic and struck a 2018 Toyota Corolla, driven by Tyler Quintal, 27, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, head-on.
Quintal suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a regional hospital for treatment.
Wheeler suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Moschetto suffered no injuries as a result of the crash.
Wheeler was charged with negligent operation and is scheduled to appear in Hampton District Court on Thursday, March 19, 2026.
Due to the crash, the ramps from Route 101 to the Side Toll Plaza were shut down for approximately 30 minutes until two of the three vehicles involved were towed from the scene.
Troopers were assisted by members of the Hampton police and fire departments.
