AURELIUS, NY — New York State Police have arrested two men following a multi-day investigation into a series of retail larcenies at Bass Pro Shops located at the Fingerlakes Mall.
Following an investigation by State Police, it was determined that the suspects were responsible for multiple thefts on Dec. 18, 19, and 21.
The total value of the stolen merchandise exceeded $3,000.
Zachary S. Rathburn, 42, of East Syracuse, and Corey Scott, 42, of East Syracuse, were both arrested and charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a felony, and conspiracy in the fifth degree, a misdemeanor.
The investigation revealed that the suspects worked together to steal various items of merchandise, including hunting and outdoor equipment, from the store over multiple dates.
Surveillance footage and public assistance helped identify the suspects.
Further investigation revealed that Rathburn was also connected to earlier retail larcenies involving Sunglass Hut, a co-located but separately operated business inside Bass Pro Shops.
Those thefts occurred on May 10 and May 12, and involved the theft of multiple pairs of sunglasses with a combined value of more than $2,800.
Rathburn was additionally charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.
Scott was taken into custody on Jan. 5, processed at State Police Auburn, and transported to the Cayuga County Jail for centralized arraignment.
