UTICA, NY — A 30-year-old man has been charged with burglary and other offenses following an incident at an apartment building on Genesee Street.
Utica Police units were dispatched to 110 Genesee St. on Jan. 2, 2026, at approximately 7:15 p.m. regarding a burglary investigation.
Officers spoke with a victim who stated that a tenant in a nearby apartment began knocking on her door.
When the victim opened the door, the male began demanding a ride.
When the victim declined, the suspect kicked the victim in the chest and forcibly entered the apartment.
Once inside, he began to damage property and stole the victim’s car keys before exiting.
Officers located the male in his apartment and determined that due to his mental state, he met the criteria for an involuntary mental health evaluation.
He was transported to Wynn Hospital for treatment.
Roberto Carvalho, 30, of Utica, was released on Jan. 8 and taken into custody.
He was transported to the Utica Police Department and charged with burglary in the second degree, petit larceny and harassment in the second degree.
