Pedestrian killed in crash in Cranston

CRANSTON, RI — Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred early Sunday morning on Scituate Avenue.

At approximately 4:15 a.m. on Jan. 11, Cranston Police and Fire responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle in the area of 525 Scituate Avenue.

Officers located an adult female pedestrian with catastrophic injuries.

Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim has not yet been positively identified pending notification of next of kin.

Through crash reconstruction, evidence collection, interviews, and review of license plate reader data, investigators identified a vehicle involved in the crash that failed to stop.

A man from Cranston later turned himself in and was arrested on a charge of Duty to Stop in an Accident Resulting in Death.

He was arraigned and released on bail.

The Cranston Police Department is investigating with assistance from the Rhode Island Office of the Attorney General and the Rhode Island State Medical Examiner’s Office.
