Man arrested on contempt charge in Cortlandville

CORTLANDVILLE, NY — A Binghamton man was arrested after allegedly violating an order of protection during a domestic disturbance.

Ernest R. Bryant was taken into custody at 9:34 p.m. on Jan. 6 and charged with second-degree criminal contempt, a misdemeanor.

Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the town at approximately 9:20 p.m. for a domestic disturbance.

Authorities determined Bryant violated a full stay away order of protection by engaging in a verbal argument with the protected party at the residence.

Bryant left before officers arrived, but was located with assistance from the University Police Department at SUNY Cortland and taken into custody without incident.

He was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing.

Bryant was arraigned on Jan. 7 at 10:30 a.m. in the Centralized Arraignment Process and released on his own recognizance.

He is scheduled to appear in Town of Cortlandville Court on Jan. 14 at 11:30 a.m.
