RUTLAND, VT — Vermont State Police are investigating an assault on a correctional officer at Marble Valley Correctional Center.
The incident occurred overnight Jan. 11 into Jan. 12.
Aaliyah M. Medina, 22, of Brandon, was being transferred to the custody of staff at the facility when she attempted to assault staff members, according to police.
While being escorted from the garage entrance to the booking area, Medina bit Correctional Officer Landon C. Stevens, 19, of Whitehall, New York, causing an injury to his arm.
Medina was charged with assault upon a protected professional.
The Rutland County Sheriff Department and administrative staff from Marble Valley Correctional Center assisted with the investigation.
