Two arrested on burglary charges in West New York

WEST NEW YORK, NJ — Two men wearing ski masks were arrested inside an apartment during a burglary in progress on Jan. 1, 2026, police said.

Officers R. Rodriguez, C. Ramos, N. DeNicola, A. Moustafa, E. Ramirez and A. Sepulveda responded to the 400 block of 53rd Street in the early morning hours after receiving a report of a burglary in progress.

When officers arrived, they found the apartment door open and damaged.

Officers heard people inside the apartment and entered.

Inside, officers observed Albert Carroll, 61, of Bronx, New York, and Diego Bautista, 31, of New York City, both wearing ski masks.

Officers apprehended both men without incident.

A crowbar believed to be used to gain entry to the apartment was found at the scene.

Both men were charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief, conspiracy and theft by unlawful taking or disposition.

They were transported to the Hudson County Jail pending their court appearance.

Police Director Henry Codina commended the officers for their response.
