BLOOMINGDALE, NJ — A Newark man has been arrested in connection with a commercial burglary that occurred in late December.
Gabriel Bay, 57, of Newark, was taken into custody on Jan. 11, 2026, by the New Brunswick Police Department.
The Bloomingdale Police Department responded to a business establishment on Dec. 29 regarding a reported commercial burglary that occurred after business hours.
Officers determined that unknown individuals had forcibly entered the closed business and rummaged through several areas of the establishment, including the cash register.
The individuals were unsuccessful in stealing any property and fled the scene prior to the arrival of the business owner.
Detective Moore of the Bloomingdale Police Department Detective Bureau initiated an investigation and developed evidence linking the burglary to Bay.
Bay has an extensive history of burglary-related offenses throughout New Jersey, including recent charges related to a string of burglaries in Somerset County, according to police.
A warrant was issued for Bay’s arrest, and Detective Moore later identified his whereabouts in New Brunswick.
Bay initially eluded police as officers attempted to apprehend him.
He was committed to the Middlesex County Jail pending court proceedings.
