RUSSELL, MA — Two hikers were rescued from Tekoa Mountain on Thursday night after becoming lost.
Russell-Montgomery Police, Montgomery Fire, Massachusetts State Police, Hilltown Ambulance and Huntington search and rescue responded to the area of Pitcher Street and Tekoa Avenue at approximately 6 p.m. for a report of two lost hikers.
Responders used cell phones to locate the coordinates of the hikers through GPS.
Due to the location of the hikers and the terrain, it was determined the best route for retrieval was utilizing West Road in Westfield.
Westfield Police and fire responded to the location and deployed search and rescue assets.
The hikers were located at approximately 9 p.m. and were transported off the mountain.
Both hikers were uninjured.
