SAYREVILLE, NJ — A 16-year-old boy has been charged with acts of juvenile delinquency for offenses which if committed by an adult would constitute murder in connection with a fatal shooting in Sayreville.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Linda Estremera and Sayreville Police Chief Daniel Plumacker announced the arrest on Thursday.
The charges stem from a homicide that occurred on Jan. 9, 2026.
Authorities received a 911 call reporting shots fired at 10:58 p.m. that night.
Officers responded to Woods Edge Court in the Parlin section of Sayreville and discovered a 17-year-old male from East Brunswick with a gunshot wound.
The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation led by Detective Mark Nairooz of the Sayreville Police Department and Detective Ryan Kirsh of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office led to the arrest of the 16-year-old from Sayreville.
The juvenile also faces charges that if committed by an adult would constitute possession of a handgun for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a handgun and armed riot.
Authorities said the victim and suspect knew each other prior to the incident and it was not a random act of violence.
The 16-year-old is being held at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center awaiting a preliminary hearing before a Family Court Judge.
