Driver cited in crash on Thruway exit ramp in Hamburg

HAMBURG, NY — A box truck driver has been cited following a crash that left a man in critical condition on the New York State Thruway Exit 57 westbound off ramp.

Nathan F. Bley, 29, of Gowanda, was driving a 2017 Ford box truck on the exit ramp when he failed to remain in his lane and struck a 2013 Honda parked on the shoulder, according to State Police.

The truck also struck a 37-year-old man who was standing outside the Honda attending to his infant in a car seat on the driver’s side.

The man was transported to Erie County Medical Center and is in critical condition.

The infant and a 28-year-old female passenger in the Honda were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Bley was issued several vehicle and traffic law citations.

He displayed no signs of impairment and is cooperating with the investigation, State Police said.

All lanes of the exit ramp were closed in both directions for several hours for response and vehicle removal.

Hamburg Police Department, Hamburg Fire Department and Hamburg EMS assisted State Police at the scene.

The crash occurred at approximately 7 p.m. on Jan. 8.
