WEBSTER, MA — A suspicious package left at the Webster Post Office prompted a multi-agency response and temporary road closures on Jan. 9.
Employees from the Webster Post Office contacted the South Worcester County Communications Center at approximately 4:48 a.m. to report a suspicious package left on a counter in the facility’s lobby.
Webster Police and Fire responded to the scene to investigate.
Police officers and firefighters determined the package was suspicious and required further investigation.
Webster EMS was dispatched to stage in the area as a precaution.
The Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit Bomb Squad was contacted and responded to assist.
An area of Main Street directly in front of the Post Office and Town Hall was closed to traffic as a precaution, and traffic was rerouted from the area.
Town and library offices were closed in the interest of public safety.
School bus companies were contacted and notified to adjust their routes accordingly.
Upon arrival of State Police Bomb Squad members, an investigation commenced and it was quickly determined that the suspicious package posed no threat.
Main Street was reopened once emergency crews cleared the scene, approximately three hours after the initial call for service.
