Man taken into custody after standoff in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA — Police responded to a gun call in the 1600 block of Wilbraham Road at approximately 11:55 a.m. Wednesday.

An adult male was inside his home and his family was concerned for his well-being, according to police.

There were firearms inside the home.

Springfield Police officers responded and secured the area.

The Springfield Police Crisis Negotiation Team under the direction of Captain Reggie Miller made contact with the individual inside the home.

The Student Support Unit was contacted to ensure no students entered the area after school.

After hours of negotiating, the Springfield Police Emergency Services Unit under the direction of Captain Brian Beliveau entered the home around 5 p.m.

The subject was taken into custody to Baystate without incident.

A firearm was recovered.
