PITTSFIELD, NY — A pickup truck struck an Amish buggy on County Highway 13 near Mooretown Road on Jan. 8, 2026, injuring one child.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:18 p.m. when a Ford pickup truck traveling east drifted right and struck the horse and buggy, which was traveling in the same direction on the shoulder of the roadway, according to New York State Police at Richfield Springs.
The buggy was occupied by four children at the time of the crash.
A 12-year-old girl from New Berlin sustained injuries initially believed to be serious but were later determined to be minor following an evaluation at Bassett Hospital.
Three other children — a 14-year-old boy, a 9-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, all from New Berlin — were checked out at the scene but not transported to the hospital.
The horse sustained fatal injuries.
The operator of the pickup truck, Thomas G. Aitken, 26, of Morris, did not report any injuries and was issued a citation.
