ONEIDA, NY — Police responded to a report of a menacing incident involving a handgun on North Lake Street on Jan. 7, 2026.
The Oneida Police Department received the call at approximately 2:25 p.m.
The suspect vehicle had left the location before officers arrived.
Police later located the vehicle in the area of Elizabeth Street, near two school buildings.
Officers conducted an immediate response due to the rapidly evolving situation and limited information available at the time.
The Oneida Police Department worked with school security staff throughout the incident to ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff.
Police determined there is no connection between the menacing incident and the schools.
At no time was there information indicating a targeted threat toward any school facility.
The investigation is continuing.
