Man arrested on weapons, DUI charges in Albany, NY

ALBANY, NY — State Police arrested a man on multiple charges including weapons possession and impaired driving early Dec. 28.

Michael G. Cole Jr., 29, of Albany, faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon 2nd, a class C felony, and criminal possession of a weapon 3rd, a class D felony.

He also faces charges of resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration 2nd, both class A misdemeanors, and unlawful possession of certain ammunition feeding devices, a class B misdemeanor.

Additional charges include driving while ability impaired by the combined influence of drugs or of alcohol and any drug or drugs, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 1st, and numerous other vehicle and traffic law violations.

Troopers stopped a vehicle on Quail Street at about 2:10 a.m. for a vehicle and traffic law violation.

Cole Jr., who had been driving the vehicle, pulled over, got out and attempted to flee on foot.

Following a brief foot pursuit, Cole Jr. was taken into custody on Quail Street.

Further investigation discovered an illegally possessed handgun loaded with an illegal high-capacity magazine within Cole Jr.’s vehicle.

Following a medical evaluation, Cole Jr. was transported to State Police Latham for processing.

Cole Jr. refused to provide samples to determine the drug and alcohol content of his blood.

He was arraigned at Albany City Court, where he was remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash, $75,000 bond or a $100,000 partially secured bond.

Analysis of the seized handgun determined it had been modified to convert the semi-automatic handgun into a fully automatic weapon capable of rapidly firing multiple rounds with one pull of the trigger.
