DICKINSON, NY — A former Broome-Tioga BOCES employee is facing misdemeanor charges after an investigation into inappropriate conduct with a student.
Evan J. Thorson, 51, of Endicott, was charged with child endangerment and official misconduct, both class A misdemeanors.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office received a referral from the New York State Child Abuse Hotline on Nov. 12 regarding inappropriate conduct between a juvenile student and a member of the Broome-Tioga BOCES faculty.
Detectives conducted multiple interviews with students, family members, staff and faculty members.
Investigators worked closely with Broome-Tioga BOCES administrative staff during the investigation.
A warrant and an order of protection were issued by the Town of Dickinson Court.
Thorson turned himself in and was processed on Jan. 5, 2026.
“The safety, security and well-being of our students and school community remain our highest priorities,” said Broome-Tioga BOCES Superintendent Rebecca Stone.
Stone said the individual was placed on administrative leave as soon as the district learned of the allegations.
Thorson is no longer employed by Broome-Tioga BOCES.
