GREENE, NY — A 25-year-old man was arrested Jan. 4, 2026, after he allegedly attempted to remove a state trooper’s firearm from its holster during a domestic dispute investigation.
New York State Police at Norwich responded to a residence on English Lane at approximately 3:31 p.m. after a report of a domestic dispute.
Upon arrival, a trooper encountered an adult male who was uncooperative and became combative during the investigation.
During the encounter, Cagan Sodan, of Greene, attempted to grab the trooper’s service weapon from its holster.
The trooper was able to restrain Sodan and take him into custody.
Sodan sustained an injury to his hand from punching a window prior to his encounter with the trooper.
The trooper was not injured.
Sodan was charged with attempted robbery in the second degree, a class C felony; attempted assault in the second degree, a class E felony; reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor; criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor; and obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor.
Sodan was transported to State Police Norwich for processing, then transported to the Chenango County Jail for centralized arraignment, where he was remanded until his next court date on Jan. 8, 2026.
