Man arrested for fentanyl possession in Southeast

SOUTHEAST, NY — The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on drug charges following a traffic stop on Jan. 2.

Jake F. Colyard, 36, of East Fishkill, was stopped at approximately 5:01 p.m. by members of the Sheriff’s Office Conditions Unit on the Interstate 84 westbound on-ramp from Route 312.

Deputies observed Colyard’s gray Honda Accord had an expired inspection sticker.

During the traffic stop investigation, deputies determined Colyard was in possession of a white powdery substance that was later identified as fentanyl.

Colyard was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a Class A misdemeanor.

He was also issued a traffic ticket for operating a motor vehicle with an expired inspection sticker.

Colyard was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Southeast Town Court at a later date.
