Man arrested on stabbing charge in Clark

CLARK, NJ — A 37-year-old Newark man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that occurred during a family party in December.

Derrell Busby was arrested Monday in Newark on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Clark police responded to the 200 block of Gibson Boulevard at approximately 12:08 a.m. on Dec. 19, 2025, on a report of a fight involving a baseball bat.

Several vehicles were seen leaving the area upon the arrival of the first responding officer.

Witnesses told police there was a family party at an apartment on Gibson Boulevard.

Family members began fighting over a game of UNO at some point during the party, according to witnesses.

The fight spilled out into the parking lot but ended before police arrived.

While officers were conducting their investigation, Clark police dispatch received a 911 call from a motorist transporting a stabbing victim to UMDNJ Hospital in Newark.

Detective Paul Sosnowski responded to the hospital and located the victim and additional witnesses to the assault.

The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Sosnowski identified Busby as the suspect on Dec. 22, 2025, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Busby was transported to Clark Police Department, processed and then transported to Union County Jail.

Newark police assisted in the arrest.
