NAUGATUCK, CT — A Waterbury man faces multiple charges after allegedly shoplifting and resisting arrest at a Walmart on Jan. 3.

Officers responded to the Walmart at 1100 New Haven Road at approximately 9 p.m. after loss prevention personnel reported a shoplifting incident in progress.

Store personnel observed a male and female concealing merchandise inside a stroller containing their infant child, according to police.

The individuals were stopped and detained at the store’s exit.

Both provided inconsistent identifying information during the investigation, police said.

Officers determined the male, identified as Angel Santana, 48, of Waterbury, had an active, fully extraditable out-of-state arrest warrant for narcotics-related offenses.

Santana became uncooperative and resisted arrest when officers attempted to take him into custody, requiring additional officers to safely secure him, according to police.

Santana was charged with requirements for recognition of extradition demand, breach of peace in the second degree, interfering with an officer and risk of injury to a child.

He was held on a $150,000 surety bond and appeared at Waterbury Superior Court on Monday.
