Woman arrested on assault charge in Ira

IRA, NY — The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a woman on assault and weapons charges following a domestic violence incident in December.

Marissa P. Clinch, 34, of Vernan Corners, was arrested at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 21 and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, assault in the second degree and criminal mischief in the fourth degree.

Deputies responded to a residence in the Town of Ira at approximately 10:54 a.m. on Dec. 21 for a reported domestic violence incident with injuries.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a male victim who had a laceration to the back of his head.

Emergency medical services arrived on scene to treat the victim and transport him to a local hospital.

During the investigation, deputies discovered that a physical altercation had taken place.

Clinch struck the male victim in the back of the head with a hammer while he was on the ground and damaged a motorcycle belonging to the victim with the hammer, according to the sheriff’s office.

Clinch fled the scene prior to police arrival and was eventually located in Oneida County by members of the New York State Police.

Clinch was arrested and transported to the public safety building, where she was processed and turned over to the Cayuga County Jail for centralized arraignment.

Clinch was committed to the Cayuga County Jail and returned to the Town of Ira Court on Dec. 24 at noon.
