Man arrested on kidnapping, assault charges in Watertown

WATERTOWN, CT — A 50-year-old Watertown man was arrested early Sunday morning on multiple charges including first-degree kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault after a woman reported being held against her will and assaulted.

Christopher Gianfrancesco was taken into custody at approximately 3 a.m. at his residence on Davis Street.

Watertown patrol officers responded to the area of Swift Middle School at approximately 2:47 a.m. for a report of an assault.

Officers met with an adult female victim who reported being held against her will and assaulted by Gianfrancesco at his residence.

The victim, who was known to Gianfrancesco, met him earlier in the evening on Jan. 3 outside of Watertown in his vehicle.

Police said Gianfrancesco drove toward Watertown while refusing to allow the victim to exit the vehicle.

Gianfrancesco was in possession of a handgun and threatened the victim while driving, according to police.

While on Litchfield Road at approximately 9:15 p.m., Gianfrancesco fired several rounds out of the vehicle into a wooded area, police said.

The exact area where the shots were fired is still under investigation.

The victim was driven to Gianfrancesco’s residence where additional assaults occurred, police said.

The victim fled the residence and was able to contact police for help.

Officer Matt Brown apprehended Gianfrancesco at his residence and took him into custody.

Gianfrancesco, a convicted felon, was in possession of a handgun at the time of his arrest, police said.

He was charged with first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, first-degree aggravated sexual assault, discharge of a firearm from a public highway, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, weapons in a vehicle, carrying a firearm without a permit, criminal possession of ammunition, criminal possession of a revolver, first-degree threatening, reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer, first-degree unlawful restraint, interfering with a 911 call, second-degree breach of peace and reckless driving.

Gianfrancesco was held on $2 million bond with a court date of Monday at Waterbury Superior Court.
